THE NATIVES ARE REDDEST


I love this tree and its owner tells me it's a native waratah as opposed to the more well known NSW floral emblem. This example is very large, towering over her house. I'd never seen one before but since noticing it, have seen a few other examples around the area. I guess because they're the same red as the callistemon which is also flowering profusely around this time (see Pam's example below), we short-sighted folk often confuse them. That's my excuse anyway. They're pretty spectacular up close as you can see and this one has been flowering for a couple of months, showing no sign of closing the show yet.
