I'd only ever seen photos of this intriguing flower before so was delighted to find some in full flower at my local nursery and bought one for myself, although it will be a couple of years before I get any flowers! This is the black bat flower orTacca Chantrieri and there is also a white bat flower (Tacca integrifolia) which is even more striking with its white 'ears'.
