(and sometimes the beast!)

When perusing a Nursery catalogue I was intrigued to see this familiar flower and to learn it is the flower of the Turmeric plant. My daughter's garden has a couple of these growing and they'd assumed it was from the ginger family.  Nice to know we can dig up the root and get fresh turmeric when we need it. A friend of Vietnamese origins tells me it is much valued for its medicinal properties in her former homeland, used particularly for the skin and after giving birth for abdominal problems.
