IMPATIENT PARROT...

This delightful little flower is commonly known as Congo Parrot  or Cockatoo (impatiens niamniamensis) and is apparently quite rare which seems odd seeing as any impatiens plants I've ever had have taken over, due to the way their seed pods explode when touched.   This one is obviously quite special.
One of my neighbours has a plant and allowed me to photograph it.  Her potted plant is a bit straggly and wasn't exactly laden with flowers but there were enough to show you. Presumably the name comes from the red 'beak'.
It is so different to the common, garden variety impatiens isn't it?
