I found this bromeliad growing on a footpath up the road. The leaves are the same gorgeous red colour as the fruit and you can see a few little purple flowers peeping out. If you didn't believe that bromeliads are members of the pineapple family, I guess this would be proof. Although this is pineapple country so maybe it is a pineapple. Whatever the name, I think it's very attractive. The photo below is of another fruit on the same plant on which all the flowers are spent and is looking very much like its kinsman. These tiny fruits are about 5cm high.
