GOING TO GROUND FOR ORCHIDS...

During my long, wet walk today from Coolum Beach to Noosa Heads to raise money for cancer research, I managed to take a few shots despite the unrelenting drizzle.  This sweet ground orchid that I've discovered is called white fingers (or petalochilus catenatus), caught my eye on the last slog into Noosa, no doubt because my head was bent and I was looking at the ground, wishing I was home.
The main road runs adjacent to some of the Noosa National Park and this little beauty was approx 10 cm off the pavement. Despite not wanting to stop, worrying that I might find it too difficult to get up and keep going, I stopped to take 2 quick shots and managed to get back up to continue. There was another a few paces further along but I didn't stop, not wanting to fall back into the pack.
Perhaps I'll return one day, when I get feeling back in my legs and not for the whole 20 km (shudder). Portions of the walk were very interesting and I'd love a more leisurely look, in better weather.

    1. I'm very chuffed that I finished. A couple of times I thought I might have to "ring a friend" to come get me. I even did another hour this morning to loosen up but still very stiff. Obviously lack of practice! I was very surprised the shot turned out so well as I was also having trouble with the camera, so thanks.

    1. Thanks Ian. Yes, it's a beauty. At first, I thought it was plastic and just more rubbish dropped by the great unwashed. Was even more pleased to find out the name all by myself. A nice break for you anyway but may be calling on your naming services soon. :)
