It was a hard slog for an old chook, but I made it to the top of Mt Coolum! Regular readers may remember that last time it was extremely windy and we decided against going all the way up. It was windy again today but not quite as bad.
I wanted to get a shot of the moon but the sunset was so stunning, I was going from one side to the other to try to get a better shot.
I was very surprised this photo turned out so beautifully despite the sun's glare. Perhaps I taught myself something by turning the camera away slightly. I'm happy with it anyway. Looks like I've photo-shopped it but I haven't.
The colours in the clouds were just starting to get interesting here. I ignored the many mozzies snacking on me.
By now I was worried about getting down in the poor light. Anyone who has climbed Mt Coolum would know that it can be quite difficult coming down, particularly near the top because the rock steps are not conveniently placed as they are further down. I did twist an ankle in the end, but it's not too bad.
I had actually started down the track when I saw the fiery colour in this cloud and took one last snap. I'm glad I did as it was very reminiscent of a post from years ago which I titled "Fire in the Sky". My knees (and ankle) may take a few days to recover but I'm glad I made the effort. Thank goodness for the flashlight app on my phone too, because it was almost dark by the time I got down.
